Komemaru on a Kanazawa Seaside FM Internet Radio Show
Published November 4, 2026. Audio in Japanese, about 14 minutes.
Komemaru, who lives with a wheat allergy and writes this site with her husband Maki, was a guest on an internet radio show from Kanazawa Seaside FM. The conversation is in Japanese, so here is what she covered:
- How she found out about her wheat allergy after a hospital stay in her twenties, and how lonely it felt not to eat what everyone else was eating.
- Why wheat is easy to miss in Japan: it is in soy sauce and in some miso, not only in udon, ramen and bread.
- How the two of them visited more than 100 gluten-free places in Tokyo to make the guide, asking about ingredients, soy sauce and, as far as they could, cross-contamination.
- What they noticed along the way: allergy labeling varies from place to place, and many places close or stop offering gluten-free food.
