Who we are
Komemaru & Maki
A husband and wife in Tokyo. There is no research team behind this site, just the two of us, and between us we have covered this ground properly.
Komemaru went gluten-free after an autoimmune diagnosis in her twenties, and it is what gave her health back. Maki spent over ten years as a management consultant, and he now uses that to work out what is genuinely safe and to get it written down in English.
We read the Japanese labels, ask the kitchen the awkward questions, and eat the food. Every place we recommend is one we have been to ourselves, and there are more than 100 of them so far.
